I’m definitely not perfect at keeping a clean home 100%, but I do make it a priority to keep my home clean, tidy and clutter-free most of the time!
I’ve always been a relatively tidy and organized person, but I do have to work hard to be that way! My home absolutely gets messy, just like anyone else’s!
When I got married, it was my first time being responsible for a large amount of space. At first, my husband and I shared the cleaning, but when I quit my full-time job, we decided that most of the homemaking responsibilities would be mine. Now we are back to sharing more of the responsibilities since I am working full-time from home.
There have been many times were I’ve been overwhelmed by the responsibility of keeping a large space clean! But I feel like I have a pretty good routine to ensure that I can keep a mostly clean home.
A few years ago I remember a friend saying, “Your house is always so clean, do you have a cleaning routine?!”. At the time, I didn’t think I had a routine, but the more I thought about it the more I realized I definitely stick to a routine, even if it’s not super intentional! In the future I’ll share my full weekly/monthly cleaning routine, but today I thought I’d share with you my daily cleaning routine!
DAILY HABITS
I think my daily habits are actually the most important for keeping a clean home. I also have a weekly cleaning routine, but these small habits are really what allow me to keep a clean home!
DO THE DISHES
Right now we don’t have a dishwasher, so we have to do all our dishes by hand. Since we cook everything from scratch, I find this to be the most time consuming task. But this is the thing that makes or breaks feeling like I have a clean home!

WIPE DOWN THE COUNTER AND SINK
After washing the dishes, I always make sure to wipe down the countertops, sink and the stove top. This only takes a few seconds but leaves my kitchen feeling so clean and ready for the next time I use it!
MAKE THE BED
Ok, I know this is on every list of “How to keep a clean home”, but that’s because it’s important! I make my bed EVERY morning, and if I don’t my house feels so messy! It only takes a few minutes and it’s so worth it.

DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS
Most people associate a good smelling home with a clean home! I don’t use any synthetic fragrances like candles, air fresheners, etc (You can read why HERE). Instead I diffuse Essential Oils daily which make my home smell amazing, and have added health benefits.
VACUUM
Ok, hear me out. I do NOT vacuum my entire house daily. But I DO use my vacuum for a few minutes every single day. We have an old cordless Dyson vacuum (Similar here) which I am obsessed with. 100% worth the investment!!
Having a cordless vacuum makes it SO easy to just grab it for little spills, if you notice dirt that your dog tracked in, or just little spots around the house that need a vacuum. I could write an entire blog post on why I love this vacuum! Haha! But this makes it so easy to keep a clean home without spending a ton of time cleaning every day!
WIPE DOWN THE BATHROOM COUNTER
We only have one bathroom in our house, and it’s very little. So it’s important to keep it clean if I want my house to feel and look clean! This is honestly the thing I struggle the most with. But I do try to at least put away all my products and wipe down my counter top every day.
IF YOU NOTICE SOMETHING, CLEAN IT RIGHT AWAY
Ok, this isn’t a specific task that I do daily. But if I notice that my floors are really dirty, my toilet needs to be cleaned, or my laundry basket is overflowing, I will just do that task right away! Even though I try to do a big clean every Saturday, if my floors are filthy on Wednesday, I’ll just try to clean them as soon as I have a chance.

10 MINUTE TIDY
This is my favourite way to clean (When did I get old enough to have a favourite way to clean?!). I used to actually set a 10 minute timer, but now I just kind of do a speed clean. I use this time to QUICKLY put things back where they belong, put dishes away, or basically do whatever needs to be done at that time! This is typically done before bed, but if I’m too tired I’ll do it in the morning instead!
I hope these tips helped you plan a daily routine to keep your home clean & tidy!
