Christmas is a time of year that is stressful and overwhelming for so many people. I don’t believe it has to be that way. I love pursuing a slow living Christmas, and thought I would share some ideas of things you can do this Christmas season to enjoy a slow, simple and intentional holiday season!

Have a Movie Night
Choose your favourite movie – it can be a Christmas movie, or not! Pull out all the blankets and pillows for extra cozy-ness, make some yummy snacks and have a movie night with your family
Make a Blanket Fort
Grab some extra sheets or blankets to make a blanket for in the living room. You could even combine this with a movie night if you want!
Have a Christmas Craft Day
You can do this by yourself, with your friends or with your kids or spouse! Find some ideas on Pinterest, gather the supplies you need and have a fun day of crafting! You could even make some Christmas decor or Christmas gifts!
Spend Time Wrapping Gifts
I’m not talking about quickly wrapping all your gifts on Christmas Eve. But instead, set aside a day or evening to turn on a Christmas movie, maybe pour yourself a glass of wine and really enjoy the process of wrapping gifts!
Host a Low-Key Christmas Party
I recommend doing this mid-November or early December to avoid the busiest weeks in December! Don’t do anything fancy or elaborate, unless that truly brings you a lot of joy and not stress. Invite your friends over, skip the gifts and just spend time together.
Host A Winter Solstice Party
Winter solstice is something that is celebrated in the Scandinavian countries. I love the idea of hosting a “Hygge” Winter Solstice Party where everyone brings a cozy, comfort food and you just enjoy each other’s company!
Look at The Christmas Lights
The town I grew up in had an area that was famous for it’s Christmas decorations. Looking at the lights was always one of my favourite parts of Christmas! If there’s an area like this around you, prep some hot chocolate in a thermos and go drive around or walk around a neighbourhood with Christmas lights!
Make a Puzzle
Pick up a puzzle at a local thrift store to put together over the holidays. There’s nothing that says slow living Christmas more than doing a puzzle with your family!
Read a Christmas Book
Put away your electronics, turn on the Christmas tree, put on your cozy clothes and read some Christmas stories. Even if you don’t have kids, I think anyone can enjoy reading a Christmas book! If you’re religious, maybe even read the Nativity Story and reflect on the Christmas Season. This is the perfect slow living Christmas day!
Operation Christmas Child
One of my favourite Childhood memories around Christmas was filling up a box for Operation Christmas Child. Get a few friends together and fill up some boxes to donate.
Deliver Christmas Cookies to Neighbours
To me, slow living and neighbourly hospitality go hand in hand! Put together a box of baked goods (you don’t even have to make them yourself!) and deliver them to your neighbours!
Send Christmas Cards
With our busy lifestyles, sending personalized Christmas cards has become a lost art. Put aside a day to send Christmas cards (bonus points for a personal message in each!!). I’m sure your family and friends will love these.
Go On A Winter Walk
It can be harder to get outside when the days get shorter and colder. But that’s actually when we need the fresh air the most! Get a few friends together, bundle up and enjoy a winter nature walk for the perfect slow living day!
Slow Down on Christmas Morning
I know that Christmas morning can be an exciting time for families, but challenge yourself to slow down in the morning. If you’re craving a slow living Christmas, make a nice breakfast, open gifts one at a time and really savour the memories.
I hope you enjoyed these slow living Christmas ideas and I’d love to hear if there is anything you also love to do!
