Yes I know, it’s still early. But here’s the thing. I live in Canada and our Thanksgiving is already over. Meaning I can decorate for Christmas whenever I want 😉 . I haven’t actually put up our Christmas decor yet, but I’ve been looking through photos from last year and planning out how I want to do my minimalist Christmas decor this year!
I feel like I need to add a disclaimer. I’m not a hardcore minimalist and I do have things. I don’t plan on getting rid of all my things. However, I consider myself an aspiring minimalist, and I believe in keeping things that bring me joy! If Christmas decor brings you joy, you do not have to only put up one tiny, undecorated Christmas tree for the holidays.
I don’t think minimalist Christmas decor has to mean that you can hardly decorate for Christmas. To me, it just means decorating without making my home feel cluttered or messy!

I thought I would share a few tips and ideas on how to keep your Christmas decor simple & minimal this year.
TAKE DOWN NON-CHRISTMAS ITEMS
Now I don’t switch out my entire house for seasonal decor. But I do have some Christmas-y things to put on shelves or hang on the walls. In order to avoid it looking cluttered, I like to take down some of my non-seasonal items like pictures, or other decor. The non-Christmas items get packed up in the boxes that my Christmas decor was stored in. In January I’ll switch it all back.
THROW PILLOWS
Throw pillows are such an easy way to make your home festive! I make sure to just purchase the pillowcase as that’s much easier to store than an entire pillow!
DECORATE WITH GREENERY
You guys know that I LOVE plants. While I do move some of my plants out of the main living space, I like to keep some plants mixed in with my Christmas decor. This keeps things looking really fresh and simple!
If you aren’t really a live plant person, go for a walk outside and cut down some fresh branches to use as decor!
DECLUTTER ITEMS
Don’t keep items that you don’t LOVE! Yes, I might have more Christmas decor than you would expect of a minimalist. But that’s because I love all of it! That’s what minimalism is truly about to me, only having items in my home that I truly love or use all the time.
If there are Christmas decor items that you don’t actually love anymore but just use out of habit, declutter them! Someone else will enjoy them more than you, and it will free up space making your home much more simple & minimalist.
I hope these tips on minimalist Christmas decor help you decorate your home this Christmas season while maintaining a clutter free and simple space!
