The past few years I have been on a journey to have less stuff and be more intentional about the things I allow in my home! During this journey towards a clutter-free lifestyle, I often feel like I have to have empty white walls, and minimal decor.
But that’s not true. The whole point of simplifying is to have a home full of things that you love! I think it is still possible to have a beautifully decorated home while maintaining a simple, minimal and clutter free home!
Here are a few things I keep in mind while decorating my home!
CREATE ACCENT FEATURES
Instead of adding things to your space, create visual interest by adding an accent wall or feature! Some ways you could do this are by installing a faux beam (we did this for under $50!), a brick wall, or painting an accent wall.
This way the wall doesn’t look empty, but you aren’t spending money or creating clutter with furniture, or decor pieces!

INVEST IN FURNITURE
I love to have high quality furniture throughout my home. I mostly gravitate towards real wood pieces that are either in good condition, or can be refinished!
I would rather my furniture itself be a statement in my home than have to buy lots of things to cover up ugly furniture!

PLANTS
Are we even surprised that I’m including this one? I would say that about 80% of my home decor is actually plants. I love the look of plants, the health aspects and I also love learning about them and taking care of them. It’s a win-win-win 😉

DISPLAY ONLY THINGS YOU LOVE
Don’t display things out of obligation, but only have the things out that you truly love and smile every time you see them! Get rid of the decor items that you are holding onto that you don’t really love.
Whether they were gifted to you, or you purchased them years ago (or maybe even recently!)…if you don’t LOVE it, it’s just clutter.

DECORATE WITH FUNCTIONAL ITEMS
One of my favorite “hacks” for minimal and simple decor is instead of buying things just for the sake of displaying them, use things that you use everyday as decor!
In your kitchen you can decorate with a wooden cutting board, salt and pepper shakers or a vintage teapot. In the living room you could have a cute watering can on display, or a wicker basket to hold your TV remotes.
When I purchase necessary things, I am usually willing to spend an extra few dollars to buy something that is a little bit nicer looking. That way it can double as decor!

I hope these tips were helpful! I absolutely believe it is possible to achieve minimalism and simplicity, and a clutter-free home while also having beautiful decor that brings you joy! I regularly share tips on simple living over on my Instagram page, and would love to be friends there as well!
