My guess is that many of you are always looking for ways you can improve your marriage. Whether you’re a brand new newlywed, or have been married for years and years, it’s no secret that marriage takes work.
Over the past few months I have been working on ways to implement simple living habits into my life, and of course these can be applied to marriage as well! So today I wanted to share with you a few simple living habits that you can use to improve your marriage!

NO PHONES IN THE BEDROOM
I’ll be totally honest, this is one I’m not very good at, but I’m working at it! I’ve said so many times that I want to start leaving our phones outside of our bedroom. There are so many reasons why this is helpful from the fact that you won’t be able to press snooze, to encouraging you to actually have a conversation with your spouse instead of scrolling FB before bed!
GET OUTDOORS
Getting outdoors is so good for us in so many ways. But it also has the ability to improve your marriage! Getting outside often means disconnecting from the world, putting our phone away and doing something fun! Whether you & your spouse are into hiking, or you love going to the beach, or just doing yard work together, getting outside together can be so fun and can really benefit your health and your marriage.

LEARN TO SAY NO TO THINGS
For me, a huge part of the simple living lifestyle is learning to say no to obligations and opportunities. While I absolutely believe there is a time and place to serve the people in your life, and make sacrifices for the sake of others…I also believe we need to create boundaries and protect our time. This can improve your marriage so much as you will be able to spend so much more time with your spouse.
PLAN YOUR TIME IN ADVANCE
Simple living doesn’t mean you have to sit around at home all the time. But it encourages you to schedule things ahead of time and make sure you are putting aside time for rest, family and the other things that are important to you. When you sit down with your spouse and your calendars ahead of time, you are able to plan date nights or just time you can spend together!

HAVING LESS = LESS TO CLEAN
Whether you’re a serious or aspiring minimalist, or just striving to have less clutter in your life. Having less things in your home, means you will spend less time cleaning your home! And when you spend less time cleaning, you will have more time to spend with your spouse!

WELL RESTED
Guarding your time, spending less time cleaning, and planning in advance should mean that you have more time so sleep! I don’t know about you, but when I’m not well rested I have very little patience. Sleeping more, and having better quality sleep will allow you to be more patient, more gracious and more loving towards your partner!

BE HAPPY
A huge part of simple living is choosing to be content in all different circumstances. This will improve your marriage so much as you learn to not dwell on the little things. Of course I don’t mean to ignore actual problems in your marriage! But when we choose to be content, instead of nitpicking the tiny things our spouse does wrong, we will be so much happier!
