HOW TO SET YOURSELF UP FOR THE BEST YEAR
I’m a big fan of goals – New Year’s goals, monthly goals, or just a goal for a new week. I love feeling like I have a fresh slate. That being said, I take my goals VERY SERIOUSLY. No willy-nilly, shallow goals over here. I’m very intentional about setting new year’s resolutions that stick!
HOW I’M GOING INTO THE NEW YEAR
I created a goal setting workbook. Just like most of the freebies I make for you guys, I made this for ME and then decided to share it!
I’m very much a pen + paper kinda girl. I love writing down my goals + thoughts as well as being able to reflect back on them later!

REFLECT ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR
New year’s goal setting should ALWAYS begin with reflecting on the previous year.
This year you might be tempted to just write off the entire year. Don’t do that!! No matter how much of a s**tshow 2020 was, I KNOW that there was good to come out of it.
Maybe you even have access to / remember your 2020 New Year’s resolutions. Reflect on any progress you made towards them, if you feel like you achieved them.
If you feel further away from your goals than ever, don’t worry! That’s why I created this goal setting workbook to help you create goals that you can ACTUALLY achieve in the new year.
A FEW OF MY NEW YEAR’S GOALS
Some of these are new goals, and some are habits I’ve been working to implement for several months already.
I’m a big fan of starting with a small habit and adding onto it after I’ve successfully started to implement it.
SCREEN-FREE EVENINGS
This is something I’ve been working on for several months for a few reasons! Because I work for myself, it’s sooo easy to work all hours of the day. But I find I actually get LESS done because of this. I’m working towards setting “office hours” for myself. These will always be flexible (since that’s WHY I work for myself), but will help me to prioritize my time better.
I also value screen-free evenings because I know that excessive blue light in the evenings is harmful to your health, eyes and sleep routine! Plus I want to be spending my evenings with my husband.
MASSIVE BUSINESS GOALS
I know I have MASSIVE goals for where I want this blog to go in 2021. In the next few days I plan on really diving into what this will look like.
Towards the end of 2020 my blog has surpassed my previous “real job” income, which was one of my top goals for they year!! I’m so excited for where it is right now and I can’t even wait to see what happens in the next year.
SPEND MY MORNINGS READING THE BIBLE
Reading my Bible on a daily basis has always been a struggle to me! In the past I’ve made my goal too big and then felt overwhelmed.
This year I’m not going to commit to reading the entire Bible in a year, or spending 60 minutes in the Word every day (both AMAZING goals). I know I need to start with a smaller goal that feels tangible!
WORK TOWARDS MY IDEAL DAY
Instead of focusing on a whole bunch of individual goals, I really want to focus on living my best life EVERY single day.
At the end of our life, what really matters is how we spent our time on a day-to-day basis. The people we love, the work we do, and the experiences we have.
2020 taught me a lot about myself and the kind of life I desire. It’s confirmed the things that are the most important to me.
The things I want more of in 2021 are: quality time with my husband, time outdoors, physical activity (hiking, camping, skating, etc), tons of time gardening + homesteading, time with close friends, cooking + baking, time away from my devices.
My ideal day would include elements of each of these and might look something like:
Wake up + complete a slow morning routine with my Bible and worship music. Eat a healthy breakfast and tidy the house. Spend 4 hours in uninterrupted work. Take a break to go for a walk, spend time outdoors, etc. Do a few more hours of work before putting it away for the day. Spend my evening with my husband, a friend or doing a hobby I love.
MAKE YOUR GOALS YOUR OWN
If you’re going to take anything away from this, I hope it’s to really make your New Year’s goals your own!
Don’t copy someone else’s goal just because it sounds like a good idea. Your goals should be deeply personal and rooted in emotion. They should get bring you closer to being the best version of yourself.
When our dreams are truly our own and when we want them SO bad, we’re so much more likely to achieve them.
I hope that 2021 is a meaningful year for each of you!
