Do you want to have a decluttered home, but feel overwhelmed by the process? Decluttering can be a lot of work. But it doesn’t always have to be! Here are 10 things to declutter in 10 minutes or less!
Pick one of these to do while you baby is sleeping, while you’re waiting for dinner to cook, or while you’re waiting on hold on the phone!
These small actions can really add up an make a huge difference in your home!
10 THINGS TO DECLUTTER IN 10 MINUTES OR LESS
CLEAR YOUR COUNTERS
Clutter on your kitchen counters is a common problem! It’s easy for food, mail, dishes, or even garbage to pile up on the counters!
I’m a fan of having as few things as possible displayed on my kitchen counters.
While kitchen decor is cute, I just don’t find it practical with the amount of time I spend cooking in my kitchen!
Try putting away any extra appliances that you think you use. Things like your toaster, toaster oven, kettle, etc. Put them in a cupboard that’s still easy to access but not ON your counter. Leave it that was for a few weeks.
If, at the end of the few weeks, you miss having those items on your counter, then move them back! But if you’ve realized that you don’t use them as often as you thought, maybe keep them tucked away.
Spending 10 minutes to clear your counters and put things in their proper homes can really help make your home feel less cluttered!
TIDY YOUR FRONT ENTRANCE
Whether you have a designated mudroom, or just a corner of your living room/kitchen where you enter your home, these spaces tend to get messy and cluttered!
Take 10 minutes to put extra coats & shoes away, hang things up or put them away in the closet. Tidy up purses or backpacks that have accumulated.
If you have out of season items taking up valuable space, find a new home for them.
Tidying up and decluttering the space you enter your home can make your home feel so much less cluttered!
QUICK CLOSET DECLUTTER
Set a 10 minute timer and just look through your clothing. Does anything stand out to you as something you haven’t worn in months?
If you have a lot of clothes, maybe choose ONE category such as pants and spend a few minutes deciding which ones to declutter.
Maybe set a goal for yourself such as “I’m only going to keep 3 pairs of jeans”, or “I’m going to get rid of anything with significant stains”.
Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to tackle the entire closet. Just do what you can in 10 minutes!
An entire closet declutter is a huge task, but it can also be one of 10 things to declutter in 10 minutes!
THROW AWAY EXPIRED FOOD
Open up your fridge and/or pantry and quickly grab any food items that have expired.
Maybe there are leftovers that never got eaten, or an old salad dressing that is past it’s expiration date.
Go through your pantry and get rid of things that are stale, have gone bad or you’ll just never eat!
In an effort to reduce waste, pull out some items that need to be eaten soon and make sure you finish those in the next few days.
Making space in your fridge for new, fresh food will make your home feel tidy and organized!
DECLUTTER ONE KITCHEN CUPBOARD
Obviously you won’t be able to declutter your entire kitchen in 10 minutes, but you can choose one cupboard to go through!
Maybe you have 100 mugs that have accumulated over time. Maybe you have a cupboard or drawer that won’t stay shut because it’s too full!
Choose whatever cupboard is the most problematic in your home.
Set a 10 minute timer, grab a large cardboard box and declutter the items you don’t use!
THROW AWAY EXPIRED MEDICATION / SUPPLEMENTS
Take 10 minutes to go through your medicine cabinet and get rid of any medications or supplements that have expired!
Not only does expired medication take up space in our homes, but it’s not actually safe to have around!
Make sure you dispose of these safely, as they shouldn’t just be thrown in the garbage!
SOCKS/UNDERWEAR WITH HOLES
Next time you put away laundry, maybe spend 10 minutes sorting through your sock and underwear!
Get rid of socks that don’t have a match, or underwear that have holes.
Also, finally get rid of the socks & underwear that you never actually want to wear! You know the ones at the bottom of the pile. When you see those ones you know you REALLY need to do laundry!
OLD CLEANING SUPPLIES
Do you have duplicate cleaning supplies, or just supplies that didn’t work?
Get rid of any extra cleaning supplies that you don’t need! Remember to do this safely and in a way that’s environmentally friendly!
Bonus tips if you commit to using up all of your current cleaning products and replacing them with non-toxic, natural products!
YOUR MAKEUP BAG
If you tend to hold onto old makeup that you don’t really love, take a few minutes to go through your makeup bag and get rid of the extras.
Maybe you have some very lightly used products that a friend would enjoy! “Decluttering” doesn’t mean you have to throw it in the garbage. But find a way for someone else to enjoy the product.
If you have expired products, or products that didn’t work for your skin, you don’t need to hold onto them.
Having a minimal makeup bag makes getting ready so much simpler.
YOUR PHONE HOME SCREEN
I thought I would throw in one non-physical thing you can declutter in 10 minutes!
Go through your phone or computer home screen and declutter the apps that don’t need to be there!
I like to have my phone screen as minimal as possible! I find that I am able to stay more focused without those distractions right in my face!
I hope you found these ideas helpful! Small actions such as decluttering for 10 minutes can really make a difference in your home!
