WINTER CAPSULE WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

WINTER CAPSULE WARDROBE // Cold Weather Winter Essentials

My winter capsule wardrobe essentials are very similar to my fall capsule wardrobe! However, here in Canada they are two very distinct seasons so they do call for some changes!

I also always see “winter” capsule wardrobes from people who live in California or Southern Utah and their idea of warm clothing is a linen romper, light jacket or open toed shoes 🤦🏼‍♀️

Here it’s about staying WARM. I live in Northern Canada in an old home that is always cold! So my winter wardrobe is much more about survival than it is about style!

SUSTAINABLE / ETHICAL CLOTHING

I am trying to support “slow fashion” more and more every year! It’s SO important to me that the employees creating the clothing I’m wearing were treated humanely + paid fairly for their work.

However, the reality is that my closet is still full of many “fast fashion” pieces. And I also realize how difficult + unattainable this swap can be for many people.

Most of the clothing that I *actually* own is 2-4 years old, I only purchase a handful of new things every year. This means that most of my items are not actually available for sale anymore!

I’ve tried to share pieces that are similar to what I own, with an emphasis on ethical brands. I’m not perfect, nor do I expect you to be! 💕

TRANSITION FROM FALL TO WINTER

The bulk of my wardrobe does transition from one season to the next. I Just change out a few pieces + accessories to stay warmer!

I’ve mentioned before that my wardrobe is super casual. As in, I work from home and basically never go anywhere! HAHA

WINTER ACCESSORIES

This hat is my favourite EVER. We own it in several colours, my husband and I can both wear them. They’re cute, comfortable and SO warm. You’ll never need another hat again!

COAT

I only have one winter coat and I wear it every single day from November – April (if not longer!).

If you live in a cold climate and are always cold like me – I HIGHLY recommend investing in a high quality winter coat. It’s a game changer!

Tip: If you can hold off – try winter coat shopping in February/March when they’re trying to get rid of stock! That’s how I got mine for 50% off!

The only item I added to my Winter capsule wardrobe this year is a Sherpa zip-up! If you are always cold, you NEED one. This is similar to mine, but I also love this quarter zip!

SHOES

Just like with my coat, I invested in one pair of winter boots that I wear daily!

I spent far too many years with cold + wet feet – it’s not worth it!

PANTS

I wear the same pairs of pants + denim year round! Each season I might add 1-2 extras, but my winter capsule wardrobe essentials are a pair of lightwash jeans, dark/mid-wash jeans, black denim and casual joggers.

I also wear leggings ALLL the time during the winter. Like more often than anything else 🤷🏼‍♀️ My favourite are these plain black leggings! But I also recently invested in these ethically made leggings and they’re a DREAM!

TOPS

In the winter I LIVE in sweaters. I’m actually not someone who loves sweaters, scarves, layers etc. Personally I’d prefer to be in a tank top and shorts…but that’s not an option where I live 😭

Honestly, sweaters are a struggle for me. If it doesn’t fit 1000% perfectly, I hate it. I can’t help it. I just don’t find sweaters to be overly flattering on me! Maybe I’m just really picky 🙈

I would love to try out these organic + ethically made sweaters next time I’m in the market for one!

DRESSES

A denim dress or LBD (little black dress) can both be worn on their own in the summer, or with layers like tights + a jean jacket in the colder months!

If you don’t love wearing dresses, a black jumpsuit is the perfect option! I love this ethical + sustainable company for jumpsuits (and other capsule essentials!).
