I strive for simplicity in my home and my life. But sometimes the minimalist culture is just too much for me. I don’t want to have a home that feels empty and cold. I don’t want to get rid of nostalgic or beautiful items, even though I know I could live without them. Over the years I’ve pursued a cozy minimal home that is the perfect mix!
Cozy minimalism is about creating a beautiful, cozy space that isn’t full of excess items that we don’t need.
Do you love cooking with a dozen different kitchen gadgets? Do it! Does a bookshelf full of books bring you joy? That’s awesome, keep them!
Minimalism shouldn’t be about rules. It should be about YOUR lifestyle and what makes sense for your family.
A cozy minimal home is about being simple, minimal and uncluttered while still feeling cozy and welcoming!
PERKS OF A COZY MINIMAL HOME
Save Money :
A minimalist lifestyle means buying less things which saves you money!
Less Time Cleaning :
One of the reasons I pursued minimalism was because I felt like I spent way too much time cleaning my home!
Having trinkets & knickknacks around the house can be cute but it also creates a lot of extra cleaning!
More Joy :
Cozy minimalism allows you to really focus on and appreciate the things you have. Instead of heirlooms or special pieces of furniture or decor drowning in a cluttered home, cozy minimalism allows them to shine!
HOW TO CREATE A COZY MINIMAL HOME
DO :
INVEST IN THINGS YOU LOVE
Cozy minimalism isn’t about having NOTHING, it’s about having things that you love and use. By being a more conscious consumer, I’ve been able to invest in pieces that I love with the money I’ve saved.
ADD TEXTURE
Texture is one of my secret weapons for a cozy minimal home. We’ve added things like a brick wall, faux wooden beam, and textiles to add interest to our home without more STUFF.
THINK ABOUT YOUR LIFESTYLE
My cozy minimal home is going to look different than yours because our lifestyles are different!
If you love sitting by the fire reading books your home should reflect that! Do you have young children who love doing crafts? Create a space that caters to them. If you love cooking from scratch, have a kitchen that allows you to do so.
Take some time to think about your lifestyle and priorities, and make sure your home reflects that.
DON’TS
WORRY ABOUT TRENDS
A huge part of minimalism is consuming LESS. This doesn’t mean you have to have an outdated space, but try to focus on timeless pieces! Instead of buying trendy or impractical furniture focus on pieces that will last a lifetime!
CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK
When putting together a cozy minimal home, it’s important to trust your own instincts and preferences. Light and bright is in style but you love dark and moody spaces? That’s fine! Do what you want and don’t worry about what other people are doing.
KEEP THINGS OUT OF GUILT
I wrote an entire post on how to declutter without guilt. This is hard for so many of us, including me! But when you keep thins out of guilt, you’ll never achieve that cozy minimal home that you’re looking for.
A cozy minimal home is the perfect compromise for those of us who love a simple and minimal home but aren’t willing to give up some of the things we love!
