I love a good accent wall because it creates interest in a room without having to add more stuff. I have been on a journey to simplify my home, so I like to keep my home decor very minimal. But that doesn’t mean you have to have plain white walls! An accent wall is the perfect way to decorate without extra clutter. Here are 5 ideas that I LOVE for an accent wall!
- Paint! Ok, let’s start with the obvious here, but I am such a believer in the power of paint! I am LOVING the black wall trend, and I actually have a black wall in my own living room! I love the drama it creates. If black isn’t your thing, you can chose any colour for an accent wall.
- Sharpie “wall paper“. I love this new trend of “sharpie shiplap” or “sharpie subway tile”. I plan on trying this out in my own home. A sharpie marker is only a few dollars, and if I don’t like it I’ll just paint over it (haha!). Can you even believe that this bathroom shiplap was done with SHARPIE?!
- Painted “wall paper”. Ok, this might be my favourite idea on this list! I love wallpaper, but it can be sooo pricey. Have you ever thought of DIYing it with just a paintbrush and a can of paint? I’ve been seeing this all over Instagram and Pinterest lately, and will definitely be trying it for myself soon! You can freehand a simple design, or use a stencil for something more complicated!
- Faux Brick. This is another thing that we did in our own home! We actually pulled the faux brick panelling out of our 1970s basement, but it’s quite affordable to purchase! We did a “German Schmear” technique, and it was so easy!
- Living Wall. Ok, this is probably the most complicated, but how fun would it be to have a living wall?! So gorgeous and such a statement! Maybe one day I’ll have one!
So there you go! 5 different ways to add interest to your home without having to add more things! Let me know in the comments which idea is your favourite!
